Adventureland
Director Greg Mottola, well know for his film Superbad has, this time, turned his own experience of first summer job into a beautiful film with sweet romance starring Jesse Eisenberg as James Brennan and Kristen Stewart as Em. It is but obvious that when you are in your just twenty’s and you land yourself in some summer job with similar people and a job that you don’t enjoy in the first place, you end up daydreaming about sex with your colleagues.
In this film it is the story of James. Due to financial problem and his father losing job, circumstances force him to take a low-paying summer job in Pittsburg amusement park. He loathed his situation. Nothing was there in the amusement park that amused Jake. He found all the rides uninteresting, ambience shabby with no fun.
The amusement park owner is Bobby and he instructs all his people to work in such a way so that people get attracted to ride all the games and throw baseballs to win prizes. James felt that all games were rigged and Bobby was of the thought that no one can win the Big Ass Panda. Again, Booby had to coach James as he was unable to perform his work. He was taught how to lure customers by faking enthusiasm especially in a game of horse race that he was assigned to do.
In the amusement park there were young ladies too working. One of them was Lisa P, role played by Margarita Levieva. She encouraged people to take rides in the amusement park by wearing a adventureland T shirt with word Rides embossed on it. Most young men working in the park developed irresistible lust for Lisa. However, James case was different. He felt attracted to another girl who seemed quite smart and she wore a T-shirt with word such as Games embossed on it three times.
This young girl is Em, played by Kristen Stewart. Kristen seemed have done immense justice to the role with a splendid performance much better than her earlier appearance in Twilight. Even worth mentioning is Jesse Eisenberg’s performance in this sweet comedy.
James and Em began to speak more than one line in most subjects. They began to enjoy each other’s company. Em had edge over James in matter of sex and James always felt that Em is a sweet-natured lady.
On one side the romance begins to bloom and on other Director Mottola twists the story by bringing in another character portraying a brawl between James and his friend. There is Connell, married, good looking maintenance in-charge of the amusement park, role portrayed by Ryan Reynolds.
In this film some shots also included the thread of relationship shared between Bobby, the amusement park owner and his beloved wife Paulette, role played by Kristen Wiig. Both had strong ideas on how the park should be run for the better. The film focuses on James and Em and amidst this there emerges a winner of the Big Ass Panda.
So, who it is and to know how the romance eventually took its shape is for you to watch out and enjoy a ride in the Adventureland. However, the movie is rated R because of the language used, drug and some explicit reference of sex.
