Blood: The Last Vampire

In the movie Blood: The Last Vampire the lead character Saya played by Gianna is actually a few centuries old but she looks amazing; actually very close to a 16-year old! Of course, that will not be acceptable by the smart audience to give good star rating for this action flick.

Film: Blood: The Last Vampire
Cast: Gianna as Saya, Allison Miller as Alice McKee, Liam Cunningham as Michael, J.J. Field as Luke, Koyuki as Onigen, Yasuaki Kurata as Kato Takatora, Larry Lamb as General McKee
Director: Chris Nahon
Screenplay: Chris Chow
Run time: 1 hour and 29 minutes
Rating: 3/5

Although Saya seems to be in her early teens she possesses the intellect and maturity to handle any kind of a complex situation. Time has not made any difference to her physical appearance in the span of 400 years. That apart, the film is in English but few of the dialogues are supported by subtitles.

The actual story of the film Blood: The last Vampire is that Saya the lead character of the film has dedicated her life to eradicate the demons that have struck Japan over the years. The interesting points to note here is the demons’ identification and let us presume that they are in fact the vampires.

It is quite unclear about the functions of a vampire and Saya drinks bottles of blood provided to her by a secret council so it gets a little tough for to differentiate between the vampires and the normal people (unusually normal people savoring blood).

Saya in spite of drinking bottles of blood doesn’t actually suck blood from humans, but actually she plays the savior and not exactly a vampire. So that solves our doubt as to who is good and who isn’t. Saya with her proficient swordplay demolishes the vampires thus, saving Japan from the evils of these demons.

And coming the film itself Blood: The Last Vampire has got a few ingredients of an entertainer and that could be a pleasant surprise to the audience. The mysterious Council has appointed Saya to get rid of the vampires who are aiming to attack the American military base and the casting of Americans in the film is justified by the well-meshed plot perfectly.

The movie is shot in International locales and it is combined work of people from different nationalities; the Director is French, the writer is Chinese and Gianna is a Korean and the vamp of the film is Japanese played by Koyuki as the character of Onigen.

One cannot argue about the age factor of Saya or try to find the logic behind her ageless character because Saya is charming and has a sparkling persona even though her character is a combination of a human and a vamp. It really does not matter in her case.

Gianna does not seem to be an exponent of martial arts but displays a convincing performance and she looks good too. The plot to a great extent has a purpose and seems to be relevant but the action part of the film goes a little awry.

The graphics used in the film are exaggerated and sometimes unbelievable. But Gianna pulls it off with her acting abilities and you will certainly watch her next film. The movie cannot be rated with many stars but it is in someway entertaining much to the relief of the audience.

And the producers should not try and make a sequel for God’s sake as Gianna is already too old it might be too taxing for her to come back again as a 16 year old or a couple of years older. That will be too much for audience to take as well; this is for Jesus’ sake enough.
