Crank: High Voltage
It is hard to fathom how the audience can accept another film such as Crank. No, not to scare you, this Crank: High Voltage scores certainly better over the previous series. But the movie hardly caters to the sane mind though it is a sci-fi there is no authenticity at all. But none of this will qualify the movie to sharp criticism and it is interesting to know how people would want to watch such a movie.
Besides so much hype on the movie being available on the net without its release, it fails to reach viewers expectations.
The movie is written by Mark Neveldine and Bryan Taylor and directed by the same duo. It is a sequel to the previous Crank in which Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) dies after falling from a mind-blowing height and he survives in the new one! And obviously the tagline of Crank- High Voltage is ‘He was dead…but he got better.
The Chinese mobsters remove his heart and replace it with a mechanical gadget. After that he escapes to recover his original heart and in the process also finds out that there other things he needs to restore. And in his journey to explore the bad guys he meets his ex-girl friend Eve (Amy Smart) who is now a stripper, previous partner’s brother Venus (Efren Ramirez) and the Doctor Miles (Dwight Yoakam) who assures to implant his heart. Of course not to forget the prostitute Ria (Bai Ling) who is saved by Chev Chelios.
The best part of the movie is that Chev’s mechanical heart needs to be charged for constant functioning and he can do that with practically any form of energy! This struggle for survival drives him to storm the city with violence and sex.
The movie and the main character lack logic and realism; it collapses even before the takes off. There is no momentum in the story and the series of events are absurd making the movie meaningless. Of course one cannot neglect the creative sensibility of the director duo Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine that grabs your attention here and there.
Crank: High Voltage by no means meets the sensible standards of filmmaking and every moment in the movie is simply atrocious. But before you reach the level of frustration it offers a few thrilling moments and later you will anyway end up being remorseful.
The movie greatly represents the action-hero who fits in every sense of the word because bullets never hurt him! And the scene in which a gangster cuts his own nipples for not being successful in the assigned job is the outrageous moment.
The concept of Crank: High Voltage is good but the director duo fail to do an impressive narration and it seems as if they are not very keen in telling a good story. Rather they have spent all their mettle in displaying insane action sequences that will make the audience yawn. The present movie and the previous ones are more of this mindless action with zero entertainment value.
Now, you may understand why the movie is rated to be better than its predecessors as it contains extra dosage of violence, sex, style and more mindless action. The movie is at times displeasing too but it is hard to decide whether that serves as good or bad for the film, which is quite funny.
The movie is rated R for too strong ghoried violence and crude and explicit sexual content (graphical), some nudity as well as pervasive language.
