Fired Up!
Comedy for teens as there are so many others, “Fired Up” is the kind of film to come out on the sly on cinema screens, ready to corrupt anyone who loved “American Pie” and “Superbad”. It is sad that the movie is being forgotten once out of the theatre.
The classic pictures are there to stay. The boys play football while the girls run their parties with their Courbet. Extremely popular with the female kind, Shawn (Nicholas D’Agosto) and Nick (Eric Christian Olsen) decide to swap the oval ball to train with hundreds of beautiful cheerleaders. There is nothing better when the testosterone is on the carpet…
Teenage years are unable to leave… At another time, “American Graffiti” was the joy with his eyes full of common sense on youth. Even today, more serious (“Birth of the octopus”) or cute (“Nick and Norah Infinite Playlist”) movies delight those who are not ungrateful with teenage age with vulgarity or stupidity. This is not the case for all. Almost every month a new production and fat idiot takes the poster to meet the lowest instincts. It is in this vein that is “Fired Up!”.
At first glance, the result is not catastrophic. In his first film, director Will Gluck usually takes control of the topic. The soundtrack will sell hundreds of discs, while the duo to “Saturday Night Live” formed by Nicholas D’Agosto and Eric Christian Olsen does not lack of energy. Especially as far brought few gags involve the target, as well as the many winks. The most hilarious of these winks is the one to the worship “Animal House”.
After the first thirty minutes, the furious pace falls completely to the neutral speed. We have to highlight the so many flaws. The treatment does absolutely nothing that had not been seen in this kind of movie and all singularly lack of memorable situations. This is not “Road Trip” and it is a shame. On the contrary, this is yet another “comedy” interchangeable which will probably be broadcast on television during the next year.
A more insulting thing is the fate of the characters. The two heroes contrast to their male colleagues who are all described as jealous and irresponsible animals. The typical adolescent is only making dumb things and drinking beer? Even more offensive is this look on women. It is here that a simple object wearing short clothes, always ready to welcome with open arms the idiots who stand in front of her.
Given these subtle messages that are faulty and angry, it is natural to hesitate before boarding the train of “Fired Up!”. No doubt that laughter will be present at some locations of these 90 minutes long, but not necessarily enough – especially in this time of the Oscars – to give the game better wait for the small screen a rainy day somewhere prior to the end of the current decade… In conclusion, don’t waste your time on this movie.
