Friday the 13th
Bloody, unnecessary and sometimes hilarious remake of a hit movie, the 2009 version of “Friday the 13th” is a return to series B slasher movies with dead, hemoglobin and tension.
“Friday the 13th” and its many sequels is undoubtedly the most overstated horrific license in the seventh art. There has never been an entirely satisfactory narrative and distributors continue to expect the miracle. That will never happen. This is the original, this film directed by Sean S. Cunningham in 1980 had nothing to compete with the style of John Carpenter (“Halloween”), the grotesque Wes Craven (“Nightmare on Elm Street”) and the vision of Sam Raimi (“Evil Dead”). Twenty years have passed and nothing has really changed. And this is not the supply of Michael Bay in the production and Marcus Nispel to achieve – a duo who had recaptured with the more or less successful “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” – which will help the cause.
At Crystal Lake, young people who think the only fun is to have sex and smoke marijuana will be fairly quickly afraid. It is that Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears) is in the area and he wished fervently to its tranquility. To get a little quiet, why not use a machete, sharp arrows, and everything that can pierce the human body? To survive a few moments, they will have to run. But no matter where the victims take refuge, there is always a mysterious presence in the back to blow what remains of their existence.
This title is a remake. However, it has nothing to do with the original. Apart from this end that seeks to extract the ultimate thrill. The increase, which increases the bodies and the appearance of an unlikely killer without a mother, a little break with the logic of the subject is horror in the 21st century. Despite the squalid traps to “Saw”, the politically correct often takes over. In his staging without relief, Nispel does not hesitate to use nudity to recall that it is for the youth and the adult notified. The narrative essay recalls the many formulas set forth by Randy in the first two “Scream”. Everything is to be taken in the second degree. The dialogues sound hollow, the actors are horribly bad (we should not hesitate to applaud when the horrible character of Trent is destroyed) and many repetitions prove once again the lack of innovative writers when it comes time to take the life of someone.
Without doubt it is possible to have fun as much debility. Except that passage, the film does not take any risk. It is easy to repeat what has already been said instead of creating something new. And that’s exactly the problem with this new “Friday the 13h”. There is nothing to fear, it is only the soundtrack that seems scary. And why give logic to it so all will be consumed as an expected and stupefying, a so-called loophole in traditional romances of Valentine?
