Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
Take a read of the so called romantic comedy story plot of ‘Ghosts of girlfriends Past.’ The female-crazy man Connor Mead which is played by Matthew McConaughey is one who aims to make out sex with almost every female he meets or sees.
He once goes home for attending younger brother, Paul’s (played by Breckin Meyer) wedding in his huge and envious posh mansion built by his late uncle; Wayne (played by Michael Douglas). It is this uncle who raises Connor and nurtures in him all the qualities of a playboy phantom with his guidance and advices of trapping a woman and escaping from the escaping from her emotional trap.
It is at his brother Paul’s wedding that Connor sees one of the bridesmaids, Jenny (gorgeous Jennifer Garner) carrying the same love torch for him. You got it right! She happens to be Connor’s first love lady and one he should have been wedded to. Whether it is pondering about still-to-conquest beautiful Jenny or fantasizing with brother’s bride’s divorced mom (played by Anne Archer), there are many ghosts that invade Connor.
However, it is the womanizer Uncle Wayne’s ghost that guides Conner and tells him to expect in all the 3 Scrooge-styled ghosts. It is also this rogue uncle’s ghost that will show him of his errands. Hmm does it recall you of Charles Dickenson’s plots?
If you are one with an hard-to-make-me-grin funny bone, then for sure you will feel nauseating for the cheap comedy; either Douglas sex talking rake or Emma Stone and Connor’s cheap high school romance or even Connor aiming at conquest of Paul’s wife. And its only poor Jenny that wants to see Connor as a better man.
You will feel sympathetic for both McConaughey and Jennifer Garner who struggled to negotiate through the script by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. By the way, is there a woman in today’s world who will view anything else but STDs stinging in a womanizer like Connor Mead (supposedly a rich and famous fashion and beauty photographer)? In fact, in a yucky fantasy sequence, the director created a used condom rain falling from heaven. But there is surprise in such crap too; you will see McConaughey to get off his shirt only once.
‘Ghosts of girlfriends Past’ is a chick film that keeps you frowning all through. You keep cursing yourself for coming to such a movie. Thankfully I had watched so your retinas don’t have to go through the 100 minutes of torture.
The film actually makes you wonder as to who exactly is the target audience for a romantic comedy film like this. There is also nothing great to talk of the production values of the film. Hopefully, someone come with some decent romcom film and not anymore like this. But are we lucky?
The film is rated PG-13 for content on throughout, language as well as drug reference.
