Inglourious Basterds
The film Inglorious Basterds is yet another delightful offering from director Quentin Tarantino. The film was unveiled in the Cannes Film Festival this year and has taken the audience by shock with its unexpected climax. But the movie will certainly have a greater impact if watched a couple of times more and only then you will understand what a cinematic splendour it really is.
In my view The Inglourious Basterds will certainly make it to the list of Best Films of this year. The German actor Christoph Waltz who plays the role of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa in the film has already won the best actor award in the Cannes that is a big boost to the movie.
The Inglourious Basterds will go in the history of cinema for having changed the historic event. The movie is based on World War II and the ending will surprise the audience for sure. But the sense of rationale shown by the director makes the ending more realistic and believable. Tarantino has revealed that he had to go through a number of auditions before picking Christoph Waltz and once Waltz appeared for the audition Tarantino knew he had found his main character Hans Landa.
The three pivotal characters of the film are Col. Landa, the hero of the film Brad Pitt and the ladylove Melanie Laurent. And the villain of the film Christoph Waltz deserves an Academy Award for his performance. The credit goes to the director to bring out such brilliant performances and present a well-crafted movie that takes the characters to a whole new level.

Mélanie Laurent in Inglourious Basterds
The movie is set at the backdrop of France, which is occupied by Nazis and is in state of war. The villain of the film Col. Hans Lands makes an entry into a dairy farm and he suspects the farmer (Denis Menochet) to have sheltered the Jews. The villain’s doubts come true and Melanie Laurent who plays the role of Shosanna escapes in to the forest. Brad Pitt plays the role of Lt. Aldo Raine who leads the Basterds whose only aim is to destroy the Nazis. Shosanna befriends Frederick Zoller played by Daniel Bruhl who is a Nazi loyalist and has turned an actor.
Zoller wants his new war film to be premiered in Joseph Goebbels theatre. This set as the plot of the film, the actors have done a splendid job of course with a special mention of Christoph Waltz who has won accolades for his outstanding performance.
Director Quentin Tarantino has done a fabulous job in terms of dialogues, photography and characterization. Melanie Laurent as Shosanna looks sensuous and her evolving character calls for attention. Christoph Waltz grabs the major part of applause as a cruel and well-mannered Nazi villain. Brad Pitt as the leader Basterds has also done a commendable job.
The movie has every element of a true entertainer; satire, romance, suspense and drama all in one, well knit and superbly presented. And that is why Inglourious Basterds has got all the right ingredients to qualify as one of the best films of this year.
