Knowing

Director Alex Proyas has yet again made a fantastic movie Knowing after Dark City. The movie is sci-fi and is one of the best films in this genre. In its treatment the movie can only be compared to Dark City, another phenomenal film.

The movie grips you with suspense, action that is logical and meaningful.

The movie is based on the most basic questions; is everything predestined to happen or occurs accidentally? The universe revolves around predetermined principle or is it bound to function without any purpose? These questions are very intriguing and at the same time may seem vague but the film out rightly poses these questions; what if we know when the doomsday is? Now this question will surely scatter your brain.

John Koestler played by Nicholas Cage has executed a brilliant performance. Koestler is Astrophysics professor at MIT and belongs to the league of people who believe that everything that happens is predestined.

He has lost his wife and has a son Caleb played by Chandler Canterbury. A time capsule is opened in Caleb’s school that consists of drawings done by students in 1959 about the possible future in 2009!

Caleb gets his hand on a sheet filled with numbers and not a drawing. Lucinda played by Lara Robinson etched the numbers, which we already know at the beginning of the film.

Koestler sees a pattern in these numbers by chance and that challenges his scientific knowledge. His colleague Phil Beckman advises Koestler with scientific rationalities but the number page puzzles Koestler who is also a hard-core scientist.

Koestler begins to believe in the transcendental and he finds out Diana who is the daughter of young Lucinda and her grand daughter Abby. He builds a bond with Diana for he believes that the two kids are the key to the unfolding mishap and he wants to save them from scary strangers in the forest.

The story meaningfully proceeds to a superb revelation towards the end that will leave an impression visually.

KnowingThe movie does not disappoint you one bit because of some awesome story telling technique by the director. The special effects are mind blowing and photography by Simon Duggan is appealing. The background score and editing deserve a mention.

The movie is superb science fiction that has series of events, which progress logically without any absurdity. There is spine-chilling suspense that will push you to the edge of the seat creating enough anxiety.

Though the movie has a few silent moments one can feel the tension that is about to surface. You may eventually understand that a disaster is likely to strike the earth, which might raise the question in your mind, as to how two adorable parents and their children will have a possible effect on it. That is mystical, but Knowing supports the theory of a predetermined universe.

Confused? Take some time out to watch the movie to believe what you thought was non-existent. You will surely not be disappointed, may be the movie will compel you to accept the happenings that appear to be a coincidence and in real they are not. The film is rated as PG-13 for the disturbing sequences and some brief language used.
