The Haunting in Connecticut

The movie The Haunting in Connecticut is based on a true story. The story is based on Snedeker family who have shifted to into haunted house in Southington, Connecticut in the year 1970 and faced a never-ending agony. We believe their story because Ed and Lorraine Warren who were paranormal agents certified it and they had also supported Bill Ramsey, who would turn to a wolf and attack people.

Even the story of Jack and Janet Smurl inspired the making of ‘The haunting’.

The story more than being based on true incidents seems to be casually motivated story and the audience can hardly believe a single thing in the movie.

Ray Garton the author of A Dark Place has touched upon the incident of the Snedeker family who seem to have narrated stories that were not genuine by any stretch of the imagination; basically they were giving disputing facts. And the author reported this to the investigators and in reply he came to know it was all cooked up to make it spooky.

But does any one bother to look into facts while watching a ghost flick? The movie contains some good acting and is technically superior. Sara (Virginia Madsen) and Peter (Martin Donovan) are in a troubled marriage and their son Matt (Kyle Gallner) is on the deathbed.

Elias Koteas play the role of a worried priest, Reverend Popescu. This completes the family picture of the Campbells. And the actors have put in honest efforts to be as close as possible to the characters.

The Haunting in ConnecticutThe background music of the film is jarring and the photography literally crawls and the house looks as if the dead never inhabited it.

The movie thus has all the ingredients required for a horror movie. There are two scary elements in the movie that of unexpected moments and apparition. The scary unpredictable moments are when suddenly a cat or a hand, face and a body part springs on the screen you may probably jump in the seat and almost immediately you will calm down thinking it was just a cat after all.

The ghostly apparitions are not very clear; they sometimes appear and sometimes don’t. Probably it is left for your imagination to see the physical existence of the ghost.

Matt is in the last stages of cancer and he has to be taken to hospital for a regular radiation treatment and the hospital is very far. So Sara decides to shift their house to a place that is closer to the hospital and causes less discomfort for her dying son.

If you have to identify one bad thing in the film, it will be surely be an overdose of surprises; it seems as if the house does not function normally. There is surprise hiding in every nook and corner of the house and the family is literally tortured with so many surprises and to an extent even the audience have to go through this menace.

The priest played by Koteas has gives commendable performance and also the person who triumphs in the end. The movie is beyond all logic and reason but has some good performances and except that the movie is quite monotonous.

The film is rated as PG 13 because of PG-13 disturbing images and sequences of terror.
