The Informers

The Informers is directed by Gregor Jordan based on novel by Bret Easton Ellis and is very similar to a daily soap imported from hell with posh sets and costumes. The characters seem to be in miserable state and are also leading to their own destruction.

The movie is set at backdrop of Los Angeles and highlights the drug culture of 1983 when diseases like AIDS were not discovered and drugs were the solution for all problems. The movie displays how strange ways of music and movies can help people from different walks of life for whom desire is the language of communication engaged.

That will make you wonder whether these people have common interest, of course they do have and that is why they are together. They wish for drugs, sex, fame and money. These fatal attractions are driving them to deep chasms and they are inviting doom much earlier than required. They seem to be in constant inferno. And one of characters pleads somebody to tell him what is good or bad!

None of the characters are cheerful; you sympathise with some and few are wicked and the others are hopeless. The anchorwoman is just a spectator and even she seems to be ruing the fact she has an affair with a married man. Almost all the characters are linked to sexual mates and at times when they have least expected.

The movie is adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s work and is set in an epicurean world that narrates different stories, which interconnect with well-written characters who does a complete justice to the role they play. You may wonder how common interests can bond so many characters.

The movie revolves round popular restaurants, parties, studios and places where you can possibly let your hair loose. Bill Bob Thornton plays the role of the studio chief and Kim Basinger plays his wife who all the time taking pills. Winona Ryder is the newsreader. Basinger hires a gigolo and Thorton’s children loath this guy.

Mel Raido plays the role of a rock singer and his character seems to be wasted and he is under the notion that he was a resident of Los Angeles and more often fails to realise his whereabouts.

The InformersIssak who plays the father of a son has serious doubts that his son is gay and he takes him to Hawaii. His son invites a girl for dinner and Issak readily agrees. Renfro who aspires to become an actor plays the role of a night clerk and he is a victim of his uncle’s cruel act and even his role does not seem to be required.

And you have another character of a girl (Amber Heard) who is quite weird and is forever ready to sleep with anybody.

Bret Easton’s work have the main feature of highlighting people who are miserable themselves and they do not miss a chance to make others lives a hell.

The movie is not a pleasure to watch and obviously when hopeless characters that do not bring any joy surround a film will trigger your senses with negativity. The audience will not have a happy feeling after watching the film.

The film is rated R for content on sex and nudity, sequences of drug usage, and also strong and pervasive language with disturbing images.
