The Perfect Sleep

The Perfect Sleep, the title of the film nowhere seems to be relevant to the film except that it will put the audience to sleep. The movie is a long narration of events and nothing else and that aptly puts you to sleep. It is as if mysterious object sailing in the space without any purpose.

And the movie rightly does not serve the interest of the people. The perfect sleep seems only to satiate its own need and in way bothers about its viewers. With that it loses the whole sense of moviemaking.

Of course, amidst this no-purpose movie, you cannot ignore the good cinematography, which is worth a mention. The interiors, the shadows and the long corridors are well laid to reflect the 19th century architecture.

The movie runs only on elaborate narration without any relevant description of the events that are being told. So, you will be wondering each time as to why this happened. Probably, only God knows the answer or the narrator. That might no be case because if the narrator knew he would definitely bother to describe the series of events.

Patrick Bauchau has lent his voice as the narrator of the film and the hero of the film does not have a name! Never mind the hero’s role is played by Anton Pardoe and he lands in unknown city and the best part is even the city does not have a name, anyway, he returns to the city after ten years of escaping from people who want to kill him. So, there is much to tell you about the plot, he is back to take revenge.

The Perfect SleepDo not worry! The movie has other characters too; hero’ s father, his lady love Porphyria played by (Roselyn Sanchez) a kid he probably adopted, Rajah is his notorious boss and you have this nasty Physician named Dr. Sebastian played by Tony Amendola. So it has got all the right ingredients; serious faced men, one charming woman, crime and all but what is the big deal? Absolutely nothing!

The hero is narrating as to how he gets battered, people are getting killed and there is so much happening but for what? No one knows and no one cares to explain. You will just feel frustrated.

The other character is Dr. Sebastian spills blood all over by stabbing the lungs of two guys with a smile on his face and he goes on to give a clinical explanation about the stabbed lungs. By the end of the scene you will have affair knowledge about punctured lungs, but you may wonder who Dr. Sebastian is.

The plot goes awry, and the film gives more importance to the characters behavioural traits. The scenes are shot in a huge hall with unending corridors and large empty spaces with looming shadows. And, the main characters are almost “behind the scenes” it means to say behind the glass doors.

The Perfect Sleep has nothing to offer to its audience, which will in any way cater to senses of the audience. The film is rated R for violence as well as some nudity.
