X-Men Origins: Wolverine

At last you will find all the unanswered questions you had during the three prequels of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in the present version; from where Logan originated and he is the one with who has evil blades hidden in his knuckles! Logan is hundred and seventy five years old who is well transited to Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) although it is interesting to know how he underwent such a transformation, probably nobody has the answer nor does he or us.

The story begins in 1840 when Canada was not yet formed but that does not mean we will learn the history of the country. Actually Canada was formed in the year 1867 for your information and its Northwest Territories were bifurcated in 1870 though the movie conveniently starts with “ 1840-Northwest Territories of Canada”! Let us not get anymore into any historic details.

But the best part is Logan and his half-brother Victor (Liev Schreiber) go on to become Americans even before we thought they were Canadians who fought parallel in Civil war, World War I and II and also Vietnam. This does not make any sense at all and to even question the logic of this will not lead you anywhere.

Wolverine is fired from the Army and he joined the secret Black Ops group under General Stryker (Danny Huston). Later he gets frustrated with the barbaric activities of the group. Though it does not matter much, Gen. Stryker appointed him to execute a secret plan: to create a super Mutant who will have all the powers even the eyes of the kid whose eyes resemble laser rays. Of course he sports the sunglasses!

You might be wondering if this is an insult to the concept of the film and it feels sad to say yes. God knows why would an actor like Hugh Jackman want to do such a movie that has made such poor show of a superhero. And as an audience you would never want to spend money on a movie that hardly fascinates you.

X-Men Origins: WolverineThe hero does not say anything smart or humorous for that matter, he just sticks to displaying of strong emotions and nothing more. But Wolverine is supposed to be the best comic superheroes of all times! That may be because it is least ambiguous. You will hardly empathize with the hero for he can hardly feel any pain and he is almost immortal. And this element qualifies him for the story full of action scenes.

The director of the film Gavin Hood has definitely done a good job but you will wonder why he signed up this project after making movies like Rendition and Tsosti.

The movie has absolutely nothing new to offer, which is very disheartening. There is no overwhelming experience, which is a characteristic feature of any superhero film. And the movie is nowhere close to movies such as Superman, Batman and Spiderman.

The best part of the film is Wolverine suffers from amnesia and it is hard to keep the secret: Wolverine forgets everything that has occurred in the film. He must thank his stars for being forgetful!

The film is rated as PG-13 for intense violence as well as action sequences and scenes of nudity.
